I just began but I have to say - criticizing Undertale for being derivative is like criticizing Doom for having too much violence. It's kinda the entire point bruh

Despite of author's foreword, there was A LOT of knocking:>
If seriously, it's a very complicated question.

What i can say from my expierence: i live in russia where indie-game industry basically doesn't exist. You can count good indie-devs on the fingers of one hand. It's sooo deeep underground(no pun intended), 99% of gamers have absolutely no idea that such thing as indie-game even exists. And 99% of games can't be found on popular websites. But Undertale is abnormally, absurdly popular even here. Actually i discovered this wonderful world of indie-games thanks(very much) to Undertale. With that i agree it's terribly overrated. Considering how much great games remain unnoticed (or foregotten) for years:C
But what i can't agree - that Undertale is not "great". No offence but i think author just doesn't like it or doesn't get it. And wants to prove their subjective personal opinion with objective arguments and goes as far as indirectly accusing Toby Fox of fascism... Really?.. it's at least... odd...

Well maybe i'm doing the same because of my personal affection to this game. But i'm open for discussion:)

Undertale is actually one of the best games ever, which has been proven. Besides, I love Undertale. It is a game with good morals, gameplay, music, and puns!
